What an incredible celebration it has been at Shake-A-Leg Miami as we came together to commemorate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)! This year's festivities were nothing short of heartwarming, uplifting, and filled with pure joy. Our community members, young and old, gathered for a day of singing, dancing, and special presentations, all in the spirit of unity and inclusion.
On a sunny morning, our campus was abuzz with excitement as campers, volunteers, staff, and families joined hands to mark this significant milestone. The ADA, signed into law on July 26, 1990, has been a guiding light in promoting equal rights, accessibility, and opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and it was an honor to celebrate its legacy!
The day kicked off with a lovely introduction, and poem from two of our campers, followed by a shout-out to our dignitaries out of recognition for their continued support from our legendary Legger, CEO and founder, Harry Horgan. Up next on stage was an enthusiastic group of campers, led by our talented media crew, singing our very own "Shake A Leg Song” and dancing off the stage. The undeniable energy spread throughout the camp, setting the tone for a day full of laughter and celebration!
Another highlight of the event was the special presentations and songs from our staff and summer camp Leggers. One of our campers took the stage to share her personal stories of triumph, resilience, and empowerment, and what the ADA means to her and her family. Each story showcased the incredible strength and spirit of our Shake-A-Leg Miami family, inspiring everyone present to continue striving for a more inclusive world.
The festivities continued throughout the day expressing the importance of inclusivity and empowering one another to embrace all our special abilities.
