Hands-On Training for Marine and Hospitality Careers

Shake-A-Leg Miami’s Marine & Hospitality Vocational Program (MHVP) provides young adults with disabilities and veterans with hands-on training, workplace experience, and opportunities to build skills for future employment in the Marine and Hospitality industries.

Through practical, hands-on learning, participants develop valuable skills in a supportive environment while gaining experience with real-world workplace expectations, safety, and employment planning.

Program Highlights

Safe Boating & Marine Skills: Participants learn essential boating and marine safety skills while gaining hands-on experience in a marina environment. Training is designed to help participants become more comfortable with boating operations, workplace safety, and the skills needed to explore opportunities in the marine industry.

CNC Machinery & Hands-On Training: Participants have the opportunity to learn about CNC machinery and other hands-on tools and equipment. Training focuses on developing practical skills, following instructions, working safely, and becoming familiar with equipment used in professional settings.

Workplace Ethics: Participants learn about workplace expectations, professional behavior, communication, teamwork, responsibility, and other skills that help prepare them for a successful work experience.

Employment Planning: Participants receive support as they explore their employment interests, identify potential career paths, and develop skills and goals for their future.

Program Schedule

Dates: October 6, 2026 – May 13, 2027

Days & time: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM

Cost: $50 per session

No programming during breaks: Thanksgiving Break: November 23–27, 2026

Holiday Break: December 21, 2026 – January 1, 2027

Spring Break: March 22–26, 2027

Young Adults Program:

Duration: 12 weeks
Cost: $85.00 per week (20% discount if paid in full)
Next Session: Fall 2024
Certification: Participants receive a certificate of completion and can apply for a summer internship.
Scholarships: Available for those who qualify.

During School Program (DSP):

Duration: 26 weeks
Focus: Sailing, kayaking, and marine education aligned with Florida State Sunshine Standards.
Benefits: Improve physical fitness, life skills, academic performance, and social development.
Certification: Participants receive a certificate of completion and can apply for a summer internship.
Partnerships: Collaboration with Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) and other educational institutions.

Registration & Payment Options

Participants may register for individual sessions at $50 per session.

Families may also request financial assistance through our scholarship process. Scholarship requests require a brief explanation of the reason for requesting assistance and acknowledgment of whether the family receives government assistance and/or resides in a group home.

Scholarship requests are reviewed separately from registration and are subject to program availability and approval.
