Empowering Futures in Marine and Hospitality Industries

Shake-A-Leg Miami offers a comprehensive Vocational Program designed to equip young adults with disabilities and veterans with the skills needed for careers in the Marine and Hospitality industries. Through hands-on training and real-world experience, participants gain valuable expertise that opens doors to exciting employment opportunities.

Program Highlights:

Marine Vocational Training: Learn essential skills in boat maintenance and repair, including engine repair, woodworking, and the use of various tools. Students also gain experience in operating a workshop, creating adaptive equipment, and working in a marina and boat yard setting.

Hospitality Vocational Training: Participants are trained in water safety, boating operations, and customer service. The program also includes courses in CPR, first aid, and hospitality services such as reception, registration, outreach, and marketing.

Certification and Employment: Upon completing the program, students receive a Certificate of Completion, qualify for internships, and become eligible for employment opportunities in the Marine and Hospitality sectors. They also have the chance to submit test results for the Florida State Boating Certificate.

Eligibility Requirements:

Age Restriction: This program is specifically designed for young adults with documented disabilities and veterans.

Qualification: Participants must have a documented disability to be eligible for the program.

Young Adults Program:

  • Duration: 12 weeks
  • Cost: $85.00 per week (20% discount if paid in full)
  • Next Session: Fall 2024
  • Certification: Participants receive a certificate of completion and can apply for a summer internship.
  • Scholarships: Available for those who qualify.

During School Program (DSP):

  • Duration: 26 weeks
  • Focus: Sailing, kayaking, and marine education aligned with Florida State Sunshine Standards.
  • Benefits: Improve physical fitness, life skills, academic performance, and social development.
  • Certification: Participants receive a certificate of completion and can apply for a summer internship.
  • Partnerships: Collaboration with Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) and other educational institutions.
