A Community for Veterans, Military Members, and Their Families

Our Veterans Program at Shake-A-Leg Miami is a haven for disabled veterans, first responders, active military members, and their families. We offer a range of activities designed to inspire, engage, and support those who have served our nation. All programs are provided free of charge, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.

What We Offer:

Adaptive Sailing (ASA Certified): Embark on a journey across Biscayne Bay with our Veterans Adaptive Sailing Course. Starting the first Saturday of every month, this 4-week course covers all the basics of keelboat sailing. Veterans who complete the course will receive an American Sailing Association (ASA) certification. This is your chance to learn, explore, and achieve—all while enjoying the beauty of the bay.

Adaptive Fishing: South Florida’s rich marine life is at your fingertips with our Veterans Adaptive Fishing program. Aboard our wheelchair-accessible 40’ pontoon deck boat, up to 12 veterans can enjoy half-day fishing trips. Learn the fundamentals of recreational fishing, including ethical practices that promote safety and environmental sustainability. Experience the thrill of the catch—free of charge!

Boat Building and Vocational Training: Dive into hands-on learning with our boat building and vocational activities. Participants work on repairing and maintaining boats, operating in a fully equipped maintenance shop, and providing brokerage services through the sale of donated vessels. Veterans also have the opportunity to mentor youth in our programs, gaining valuable leadership experience. Our boat building school focuses on constructing historically significant models like the Ralph Munroe designed Sharpie and Military Boats originally built in Miami. All activities, including the creation of smaller model boats for sale, are designed to support the growth of the school—and everything is offered free of charge.

Physical Conditioning and Community Service: Stay active and engaged with programs that include physical conditioning and community service projects. These activities not only promote physical well-being but also foster a sense of camaraderie and purpose among participants.
