This Give Miami Day was unforgettable, not just for the generosity we witnessed but for the incredible surprise that lit up Biscayne Bay. We had the privilege of unveiling the Britto Houseboat, a floating masterpiece turned art installation, thanks to the genius of Romero Britto and the generosity of Ruth Mitchell.
The Britto-art-adorned Houseboat will be making prominent appearances at the Dec. 7 Miami Shores Holjiday Boat Parade and the Dec. 14 Winterfest Boat Parade in Fort Lauderdale, colorfully promoting Shake-A-Leg's spirit of inclusivity and fun.
Ruth, the donor of this remarkable houseboat, is the wife of the late Carleton Mitchell—a celebrated sailor and author who dedicated his life to the water. Her vision for the boat was to honor Carleton’s legacy while giving back to the community. With Britto’s transformative artistry, the houseboat is now a floating art exhibit on the water, radiating joy, inclusion, and creativity.
This vessel isn’t just a boat; it’s a vibrant symbol of what Shake-A-Leg Miami stands for: making Biscayne Bay accessible, beautiful, and meaningful for everyone. Every brushstroke on this floating gallery represents the support and love of donors like you, who help us turn dreams into reality.
We are deeply grateful to Ruth Mitchell and Romero Britto for this gift of inspiration, and to everyone who supports our mission. Together, we’re making waves of change!
